Lostprophets drummer to join Nine Inch Nails full-time

Ilan Rubin will not be re-joining the Welsh rockers any time soon
Nov 18, 2008

Lostprophets drummer Ilan Rubin has spoken to NME.COM about his departure from the band, confirming that his exit will be permanent.

As previously reported Rubin has left the Welsh outfit to join Nine Inch Nails - replacing Josh Freese.

Rubin revealed he will leave Lostprophets for good after finishing up the final touches on their forthcoming new album in Los Angeles, and is unlikely to play live with them again.

“As of January that’s [Nine Inch Nails] going to have to be my full time thing,” he told NME.COM. “I know that I’m not just in to fill in for a couple of months. I’ll be there for whatever needs to be done, and that’s basically that’s my new position.”

Rubin, who has been with Lostprophets since 2005, said his bandmates had been supportive about his decision to leave.

“They’re [Lostprophets] very supportive of me going because they knew it would be good for me,” he said. “They’re fans of Nine Inch Nails themselves so I can honestly say there’s no hard feelings. I’ll be able to leave on a positive note and remain friends with everybody.”

Speaking about the forthcoming Lostprophets album, Rubin added, “I’ve been a part of this album from the beginning so it was only natural that I see it through ’til the end.”

THE ALBUM IS OUT!

COUP is finally out in its entirety.
At the moment it is available on iTunes, Amazon. com, lala. com, and other online distributors. But if your site of choice doesn’t have it yet, it’ll probably be up by the end of Nov. 18th. Go get the album and enjoy it in the quality and order it deserves to be to listened to. I couldn’t be happier with this first album and I hope you all enjoy it as well.
Thanks and take care!

NINE INCH NAILS Taps LOSTPROPHETS Drummer

NINE INCH NAILS has tapped LOSTPROPHETSIlan Rubin to handle the drum duties for the group on the road beginning in early 2009. Drummer Josh Freese will exit NIN’s current lineup at the end of its current North American tour.

Writing on the NINE INCH NAILS web site, the group’s mainman Trent Reznor said regarding the band’s latest addition, “I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds [festivals in the UK] a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away — the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year.”

Freese has played with NINE INCH NAILS for the last three years, joining the lineup in late 2005.

Ilan Rubin, 20, began playing drums at the age of 8, when he discovered his father’s 1968 Silver Sparkle Ludwig drum kit set up in the garage. He has reportedly taken lessons from BLINK-182’s Travis Barker and David Uosikkinen, drummer of famed ’80s band THE HOOTERS. He is also an accomplished guitarist and classical pianist.

The New Gaze…

Lostprophets are thrilled to announce that guitarist Lee Gaze and his wife, communications specialist Syirin Said, have welcomed their first child—a son.

After almost 60 hours of labour, Syirin gave birth to Daniyal Rehan Said Gaze in London on Oct. 18 with Lee by her side. Daniyal weighed in at 8 lbs., 9 oz.

“We are extremely excited to start our family with the arrival of baby Daniyal. He is so, so cheeky—he sleeps so well when we’re out and about, but refuses to sleep when he’s home, which means no sleep at all for Mommy and Daddy. But it’s all so worth it,” say the new parents, who were married in Syirin’s native Malaysia earlier this year after four years together. “We’re looking forward to whatever comes next from our little monster!”

After spending the last few weeks bonding at home with his new family, Lee is set to join the other members of Wales’s Lostprophets at a Los Angeles recording studio this week where the band will finish their fourth full-length album, a follow-up to the No. 1 Liberation Transmission.
